The Moynihan Family is well known on the Irish and international musical scene and their range of musical styles encompasses classical, traditional and contemporary music. Their talents were fostered by Irish musical institutions and internationally renowned academies and conservatoires. They have performed in prestigious venues around the world and have recorded extensively, both individually and collaboratively across the musical genres. In 2010 they were invited by the CIT Cork School of Music to perform together in a family concert. The unique nature of this event captured the imagination of concert goers and led to a desire for the performers to repeat this musical occasion.

Diarmaid Moynihan

Diarmaid Moynihan is widely acknowledged as one of Ireland’s foremost uilleann pipers and composers. He has been involved in music professionally since his early twenties and has a long and distinguished recording, performing, and composing career. He has performed or recorded with many world renowned traditional music stars including Donal Lunny, Flook, Guidewires, Liam O’ Maonlai and Alain Stivell among many others. He has also collaborated with a number of classical concert orchestras and jazz greats including keyboard player Pete Jacobson, drummer Nic France and saxophonist Richie Buckley. His compositions have been recorded by Lunasa, Cherish the Ladies, Michael McGoldrick, Kathryn Tickell and many more. A former winner of both the All-Ireland Fleadh Cheoil and the Oireachtas he was a founder member of the groundbreaking band, Calico. The award winning band toured regularly throughout Europe and the USA appearing at many of the major music festivals.


His music has featured on numerous programmes on TG4, BBC, RTE and Lyric FM and has been included in a number of manuscript publications. He is also a highly respected teacher and he has given master-classes in Italy, the USA, Germany, Finland and Australia and has taught at University College Cork, University of Limerick and The Cork School of Music. Patricia Moynihan

Patricia studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Whilst there,she was awarded the prestigious Ulster Bank Bursary, the GSMD Wind prize and a scholarship to Cité de la Musique, Paris, to study with Pierre Boulez and David Robertson.


She now lives in London and has a busy career as an orchestral and chamber musician. She plays regularly with the country's finest symphony orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and chamber orchestras including the London Mozart Players, Camerata Ireland and the Irish Chamber Orchestra. She also plays with many opera and ballet orchestras , such as the Royal Opera House, Royal Ballet Sinfonia and English National Opera.


Patricia has toured Japan many times with the London Symphony Orchestra and the Crawford Piano Trio. Her career has seen her perform across the USA, South America, Russia, the Baltic States, China and throughout Europe. She regularly coaches students in the major London colleges. Donncha Moynihan

Donncha Moynihan is a Cork based guitarist and recording engineer. He was a founding member of the traditional band Calico who released two award winning albums – Celanova Square and Songdogs. He has toured extensively with various traditional bands worldwide including Lunasa, At the Racket, Bavan, Alan Kelly and The Red Hat Band. His guitar playing has featured on many traditional and contemporary recordings. Along with many appearances on national tv and radio, he has also featured on and recorded the theme music for various tv and radio shows.


As a much sought after audio engineer, he has engineered and mixed a wide range of albums in various genres in his own cork based studio ( Recent projects involved mixing albums for various world renowned jazz artists for labels such as Leo Records and Creative Source Recordings and for the classical label Naxos.


Along with recording and producing many albums, he also is involved in postproduction for tv and film. Deirdre Moynihan

As a soprano soloist Deirdre Moynihan has performed with many orchestral, choral, operatic and chamber music groups both on the International stage and throughout Ireland. One of Ireland's foremost early music artists, her debut CD of Vivadi Cantatas was released by the international classical label, Naxos, to widespread critical acclaim. International Record Review described her voice as being “unfailingly beautiful in tone”, Musical Opinion referred to her performance as “splendid” while Music Web International wrote “a beautiful voice, which is perfectly suited to baroque music”. Deirdre also embraces the challenge of contemporary music and has premiered works by Raymond Deane, Bill Whelan, Ian Wilson and Brian Irvine. 


She has sung as a soloist with, amongst others, the R.T.É Concert Orchestra, Irish Baroque Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra, Crash Ensemble and Con Tempo string quartet. Radio broadcasts include Lyric FM, RTE Radio 1 and BBC Radio Ulster. Kieran Moynihan

Kieran Moynihan studied with Evelyn Grant at the Cork School of Music before moving to London in 1995 to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where he studied flute with Averil Williams and piccolo with Sarah Newbold. Since graduating he has enjoyed a busy and varied freelance career incorporating opera, ballet, symphonic repertoire and musicals.In recent years he has specialised in opera, performing with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, Opera Ireland, Anna Livia Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North and Scottish Opera.


Symphonic engagements include BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and in Ireland, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra and Camerata Ireland.He also works regularly with ballet companies such as English National Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet and Ballet National de Cuba. Kieran is in great demand as a musical theatre player performing in the London productions of The Phantom of the Opera and Lord of the Rings as well as touring with major West End productions of The King and I, Miss Saigon, Mary Poppins and the recent 25th anniversary version of Les Misérables.

Fionnuala Moynihan

Dr. Fionnuala Moynihan became the first person to be awarded a Doctorate in Music Performance from the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the Dublin City University in 2009. Fionnuala is widely acknowledged as one of Ireland’s leading pianists. She has a particular affinity with the works of both baroque and classical composers. Fionnuala performed the Complete Piano Sonatas of Mozart in the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin, in a series of five recitals which ran from February to June 2010. She is the only Irish pianist to have undertaken the formidable challenge of performing this cycle in its entirety in Ireland. In February 2014 she completed another monumental project – to jointly perform ‘The Complete Piano Sonatas of Haydn’, a series of twelve recitals over two years. Fionnuala’s third classical series ‘Clementi: The Piano Sonatas’ began in November 2014 at the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin and consisted of eight recitals over two years. She is currently performing ‘The Complete Piano Sonatas of Mozart’ in a five-recital series in the Triskel Arts Centre Cork.


Fionnuala has given solo recitals and concerto performances throughout the UK, France, Holland, Italy, Israel, U.S.A, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Russia, Poland, Japan and Hungary. She won the John Field Prize at the 2009 Dublin International Piano Competition. H
